Description
The Canadian Colonist was a German newspaper. It was established in 1863 by Jacob Teucher. By the end of 1872, the newspaper was being published and edited by John H. Schmidt and Michael Scherer. The paper was published every Wednesday from their office at 19 Erie Street in Stratford. Scherer left the in paper the mid 1870’s and he started his own German newspaper called Der Perth Volksfreund (The Perth People's Friend).

The Colonist was in print until the early the mid 1910’s.
