Indians Want to Send Envoy To London Talks

BRANTFORD, Ont., (CP) - A group of Indians on the Six Nations Reserve here has asked permission to send a representative to the Commonwealth Prime Ministers' Conference, which opens March 8 in London.

The group, the Confederacy of the Grand River Country, consists of Indians loyal to the hereditary chiefs. Its members consider the Confederacy a separate nation from Canada.

The other Indians on the reserve have an elected council and accept Canadian law.

SPOKESMEN SAID yesterday letters have been sent to the Queen and British Prime Minister Macmillan asking permission to attend so that the Confederacy council can express its views on "the constant conflict between the federal government of Canada and the Grand River Country Confederacy."

The council has been sending letters requesting such permission from British authorities since 1932, but a reply has never been received. The council claims that the letters had been intercepted before they reached the reigning monarch.

The hereditary chiefs of the Six Nations Indians today sent a letter to Premier Frost protesting the introduction of an Indian in the Ontario legislature as "a chief of the Confederacy of the Brantford reservation."

THE HEREDITARY chiefs said the Indian, Elliott Moses, while a resident of the Six Nations Reserve is a Delaware and as such cannot become a Six Nations chief.

The letter threatened a law suit for misrepresentation should such an incident occur again, and demanded "that this error be corrected, and be classified to all members the legislature and their people."
