Description
"I recently saw a startling plea for the conservation of our environment. It was from a conservation bulletin from the Helensburg Club of Helensburg, Scotland. It was startling because it was written 132 years ago. Who was the man so far ahead of his time, who foresaw the horrendous problem we are only now beginning to face? It was Chief Seathl (Seattle) of the Squamish Indians. He was writing to U.S. President Franklin Pierce in 1855 about the proposed purchase of Sqaumish lands."
