Description
"The incident happened nearly 70 years ago in the remote coastal region of British Columbia but its repercussions are still being felt. Members of the Kwakiutl band defied an 1884 federal law prohibiting potlatches and held one in their village in December 1921. The police swooped down and arrested 45 participants. A subsequent trial saw 22 of them imprisoned."
