• J Devotional 9 MAGAZINE SECTION Then said Jesus, "Were there not ten cleansed? Where are the nine? Luke 17:17 Noticing that his servants never said grace at mealtime, a king decided t6 teach them a lesson. The king invited a beggar in torn, tattered rags to eat at his banquet table. After feasting at this bountiful table, the beggar got up and walked away without thank- ing the king for his kindness and genero sity. The servants were horrifi ed and filled with anger because the beggar was so un- grateful. Then the king reminded them that this was exactly how they wer·e treating God, failing to thank Him for a l l the good things they enjoyed. Ingratitude has been a common characteristic in human life across the centuries. Jesus recognized this unhealthy trait when He healed the ten lepers. Only one returned to express his gratitude. r-Je need to be extremely careful not to be numbered among the ungrateful nine. Prayer: Our heavenly Father, f r om whom cometh every good and perfect gift, we thank Thee for the beauty and bounty of the earth - for every gift of Thy love each day brings. Help us to be more grateful and more deserving. In Jesus 1 name we pray. Amen. Thought for the Day The Christian's attitude is one of gratitude.
