S. A. related to ~he Six Nations Indians of Ny historical research began. The following is the context of knowledge I have gained, so far - The Cherokees were the largest group of the Iroquoian tribes but never came to the point of joining the Iroquois Confedera~y (League of Peace) though every Indian tribe was given the privilege to enter the Confederation. The Iroquois, however, allied themselves with the British i n the 1unerican Revolutionary Har but the Cherokees did great service to the United States in the 1·J ar of 1812. They have large tribal properties in Oklahoma and a reservation in North Carolina, U.S.A. Years ago they numbered 26 7 000 in Oklahoma and about 1400 in North Carolina. They are an industrious people and have attained a great degree of culture and civili- zation by making uso of all educational facilities. At one time, gold was discovered in their territory, and as the story usually goes 7 their lives of misery began. Previously a Removal Act was passed, later their lands were confiscated and in all wonderment who became King Midas? I have had a glimpse of their lives of suffering in the past through a little booklet entitled 11 The Vale of 'rears" written by a Cherokee Indian. Further research and study are necessary as Cherokees are actually brothers to the Six Nations Indians. Beginning next week, there wil l be a children's page in Tekawennake; so come, ~ids, send in your articles. Miss Nora Eo Jamieson is the editor of 11 The Children's Page." *~Hi-->,(-***-)< l'-*****-l<·****·fdi-*****·* EasyRecipe for a Good B~~.c_h_~Q.i_sh .
