This notice is published by Indian Farmers of all political ideas. Loyalists and Mohawk Workers, who believe that the Agricultural prosperity of the Reserve should not be mixed up with political disagreements.
We want to see better farms and better livings for every one so let us forget our political quarrels and get on with the job.
The management of the Agricultural Society is not a matter of Reserve Politics at all - although some have tried to make it so.
We are a Nation of Farmers we make our livings by our farms --and the politics, of those we elect to boost our Agricultural Society, and keep us before the eyes of the Farmers of Canada as up-to-date farmers as good, and better, than many white farmers does not matter to us a cent as long as we get the best men to do it.
Our Society exists under the "Agricultural Societies Act" of the Province of Ontario, a law designed to help farmers, and whoever we appoint to control the Society must obey the rules laid down in the act, or be personally answerable to the law.
This has not been done, the Laws have been broken and money, which should have gone to help our farmers, has been misapplied. The Agricultural Society of Ontario has stopped its Grant. A High Court judge has cancelled our election; because it was corruptly carried out. He has said in open court that our president was "unreliable." That our secretary was "shifty and dishonest" and that our treasurer was "stupid."
We stand disgraced before the farmers of Ontario and the Dominion by the action of these men and it is up to us to show on the 15th, by electing honest and reliable men, that whatever quarrels we may have amongst ourselves we are all united to make the best of our wonderful soil and our wonderful farming opportunities.
The action before Mr. Justice Logie at Cayuga was not a political one, as these men of whom the judge expressed his opinion wish us to believe, one of Loyalists against Mohawk workers.
It was an action taken by a few farmers who have the good name of the Six Nations and the prosperity of the people at heart to prevent the rule of the Agricultural Society and the misappropriation of money which if properly used would help every farmer on the Reserve.
It has been ordered that $200.00 and $120.00 must be immediately returned to the funds of the society by those who misapplied it.
It has been ordered that automatic turnstyles are to be erected at each entrance of the Agricultural Grounds.
It has been ordered that the treasurer must be bonded, in accordance with the Ontario Agricultural Act.
It has been ordered that the Ontario Agricultural Act, without which no Ontario Agricultural Society is recognised, is to be strictly enforced and any breach of it will be dealt with under the Act.
There should be no mistake in the minds of the old directors that this money ordered to be repaid by the judge can be repaid from future receipts, as it cannot be done, and any attempt to do so will be promptly followed by legal action. It must be paid by the directors themselves.
Although no more irregularities will be possible, or allowed the prosperity of the Reserve greatly depends on the men you elect on the 15th.
Think well before you vote, whether the candidate is able to do the work and will honestly handle the large sums which are yearly received in Fall Fair gate money, as none of us want the Ontario Agricultural Association to again withdraw its Grant, (if it is satisfied to renew it,) or any more of our officers told by a judge that they are shifty and dishonest, unreliable or stupid.
The Poll is advertised to open at One p.m. and the treasurer has been reminded by the superintendent that he should be present at a sufficiently early time before that to enable anyone who wishes to procure membership tickets from him.
As voting may legally take place up to 6 p.m. the polls must remain open until that hour but the president will not declare the polls open so long as there is anyone present who complains that he has been unable to see or gain access to the treasurer to purchase a ticket of membership from him.
There were regrettable occurrences at the last election which led Mr. Justice Logie to cancel it and order another. These will not be repeated and those who wish to buy membership tickets and register their votes will be given every opportunity to do so.
Vote for men who will bring prosperity to the Reserve and honour to our Agricultural Society amongst our white neighbours.
Be There Early!
