Manitoba Cree lawyer Ovide Mercredi is seeking re-election as grand chief against four other candidates.
Besides Mercredi, other candidates in the race to become the assembly's next chief are: Quebec Huron leader Konrad Sioui; Wally McKay of the Sachigo Lake First Nation of Ontario; Mike Mitchell, former chief of the Akwesasne Mohawk reserve near Cornwall, Ont.; and Toronto lawyer Delia Opekokew, originally from the Canoe Lake _ Nation of Saskatchewan _
