All native concert on Friday

OHSWEKEN - Expect to see Mitch Walking Elk, Elizabeth Hill, Joseph Green (no relation) and Sam Dogg performing on Friday.

Who are these people and what do they do?

That question is the purpose of CKRZ's Second Annual All Native Concert at the Pageant Grounds on Seneca Road, from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.

"It gives people a chance to get out and see artists they wouldn't normally be able to see," said Al Sault, concert committee member.

Mitch Walking Elk is a native country music recording artist with three releases under his belt. Ain't No Simple Thing is his latest compact disc released by Shaiela Recording in 1993. He hails from Minnesota and travels all over North America.

Local talent Elizabeth Hill's CD, When The Spirit Moves Me, was released in 1993 by the Music Master's label. Joseph Green doesn't sing or dance. He's a magician.

"The concert helps the Toy Fund Drive and also allows artists to gain experience and recognition. Lots of people off reserve don't know who people like Mitch Walking Elk are," said Sault.

Dane Ngahuka of Wairua Studios will perform and provide sound engineering. Three of the top singers of Oake and Honyust Singers Development also will perform for the first time.

Seating is provided but lawn chairs are allowed. Door prizes have been donated by merchants and by the community radio station for this all acoustic concert.
