OHSWEKEN - Bill Montour is going ahead with plans for a $15 million tire recycling plant at Six Nations - with or without community or government approval.

Montour wants approval for the project, but said that after 10 months of work and $15,000 of his own money, he has come too far to stop now.

"It's my economic future," the former chief councillor told Six Nations band council Tuesday.

Montour, who is now chief of staff at the Assembly of First Nations, appeared before council to present his plans for a plant that would use "thermal distillation" technology to melt four million tires a year into their valuable component parts - natural gas,
