Six Nations might be interested in buying the empty icomm building to set up a casino, Chief Coun. Steve Williams says.
Speaking after a band council meeting Tuesday, he said Six Nations might be interested in running a casino on Six Nations land in the city.
The city-owned, $15 million building has been empty since the failure of the icomm museum project last spring.
City council decided to moth-ball the building in September and began searching for a new owner or tenant.
Chief Coun. Williams said the city would stand to benefit by sharing casino profits and by tourism spin-offs.
A consultants' report completed last year for the provincial government suggested a casino in southern Ontario would reap hundreds of millions of dollars a year.
