- NATIVES OCCUPY ISLAND
Sub-zero temperatures couldn't deter a group of supporters of the Six Nations' Iroquois Confederacy from taking over a small island in the middle of the Grand River just after midnight this morning. The supporters - many who did not want to be identified - built a small campfire on the island to keep warm. The island is part of the land which is claimed by the Six Nations. However, the city wants to use the land for a sewer trunk line which crosses the Grand River to service this northwest industrial area.
