- Anniversary Marches in Oka
OKA, Que. (CP) - Drum-beating natives from across Canada marched through the town of Oka on Thursday, marking the first anniversary of a crisis that gripped the country and galvanized Indian politics.
The police-escorted march, led by Manitoba legislative member Elijah Harper, Mohawk representative Ellen Gabriel and Peigan Lonefighters Society leader Milton Born With a Tooth, drew only silent stares from the few Oka residents watching.
