Six Nations Novice Blackhawks take home championship
By Jerrica Thomas-Hill

TILLSONBURG -After the Six Nations' Novice Blackhawks advanced to the finals by eliminating Ayr 5-4 in overtime last Tuesday, they went on to play Burford for the championship game in Tillsonburg on Saturday, March 28th.

The Blackhawks had a slow start to the Southern Counties "B" final against Burford. After numerous shots, they just couldn't find the back of the net and trailed 2-0 after the second period.

Finally, four minutes into the third period, Davin McDonald picked up a rebound from Cruz General and Averee Sault to put Six Nations on the scoreboard. That was just the boost the team needed, because not a minute later, Asher Martin buried another with an assist from Roymn Montour to tie the game.

With just under ten minutes left in the game, the crowd was on the eage of their seats when Burford scored a heartbreaking goal to take the lead, 3-2. However, this did not go unanswered, as Dayton Martin added another goal unassisted to the scoreboard to once again tie the game.

As the minutes counted down, the excitement grew. Both teams tried tirelessly to take the lead for a chance to win the championship. It was then -with just under five minutes left in the game - that Kaleym Racette managed to get a shot off the top corner with a pass from Mace Anthony and Eric VanEvery.

For the first time, Six Nations took the lead into the final minutes of the game. With their eyes set on the southern counties championship title, the Blackhawks never gave up. And with only 51 seconds left on the timer, Dayton Martin with an assist from Cruz General added an insurance goal to make the final score 5-3.

Both teams played extremely well, but it was Six Nations who took home the banner.
