Six Nations annual Christmas parade
by Denise Dicy

OHSWEKEN - It was cold, grey and dismal...and so was the weather. Despite the efforts of this year's parade coordinators from the Six Nations Literacy Council, Santa was viewed by few and accompanied by fewer during his ride through Ohsweken on Dec. 17th.

Elva Lickers, one of the coordinators, attributed the poor organizations of the event to a simple mix-up between the Literacy Council and the Haunted House Committee (headed up by Angela, Sheila and Kathy Powless), who usually pull the parade together. The Haunted House Committee thought the Literacy Council was putting the parade together and the Literacy Council thought that the Haunted House Committee was, she said.

But, despite the misunderstanding and the late start in organizing parade entries and the fund raising breakfast that followed at Glenn Styres' Garage, Lickers said that "considering the hardships, I think it went pretty well."

Next year, Lickers says the parade will definitely be back in the hands of the Powless parade pros, whom she commended for their community minded activities; "Basically, these three women are doing this for the kids and the community."
