TORONTO - Members of the New Credit First Nation are invited to participate in a reconciliation ceremony to be held next month in Toronto by the Transformation Prayer Ministries.
Reverend Michael Lafleur, attended the New Credit general council meeting Tuesday evening, to extend an invitation to the ceremony.
"It's astounding how little we know about what the First Nations people went through," said Lafleur.
The purpose of the reconciliation ceremony as explained by the reverend is to initiate a season of repentance, reconciliation and restoration with First Nations people.
"Christian leaders in Mississauga and the Greater Toronto Area are slowly becoming aware of the social injustices that have been done to Native people," said Lafleur.
New Credit band council Chief Dan LaForme and councilor Larry Sault, Grand Chief of the Association of Iroquois and Allied Indians have already agreed to participate in the ceremony.
The ceremony is scheduled to take place on the banks of the Credit River, near the Mississauga Golf Club and the Queen of the Apostles Renewal Centre.
Reverend Lafleur anticipates the attendance of 600 to 700 leaders at the conference which begins April 15th. The ceremony will take place during midafternoon the following day.
