- Six Nations Native Pageant finishes another successful seasonBy Erin Tully
SIX NATIONS - The Six Nations Native Pageant put on a great performance at this year's play. The story was an adaptation and 'fictional biography' of Pauline Johnson's life taken with underlying themes take from her poem, The Cattle Thief.
Dakota Brant, of Six Nations, wrote and directed this year's play. Her past experience and expertise in the creative/theatrical fields were apparent when her written words sprung to life at the natural amphitheatre on Seneca Road.
Before the play started Mona Staats, Six Nations Elder, gathered children and youth together on the 'stage' to tell them a story.
She told the youth the legend of how the chipmunk got its stripe. The children and youth on stage and in the audience listened attentively.
Shortly after the story telling the Mohawk women singers took the stage and present the audience with a few songs.
During their last song the audience members were asked to make their way down a path to the stage area to dance.
On Friday night a number of participants, mainly youth, took the women up on their offer and joined them on the stage.
The play started shortly after dusk and the actors/actresses performed for approximately 30 people.
The members of the Six Nations Native Pageant Theatre put on an enjoyable show for all ages.
