Province issues apology for residential schools
By Nahnda Garlow

TORONTO - Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne apologized yesterday on behalf of the Government of Ontario for the brutalities of Canada's residential schools system.

Wynne apologized for the policies and practices supported by past Ontario governments, and the harm the province's 18 residential schools brought to indigenous people.

The province announced a $250 million dollar investment into actions of reconciliation in Ontario.

Wynne recognized no apology can change the past or the future, but said the province hopes to demonstrate their commitment to changing the future by building relationships based on trust, respect and Indigenous Peoples' inherent right to self-government.
