WINNING THE STEWART CUP, 1923 For many weeks, the boys ot the Save a: had trained, never stopping duriag the days of July and August. Now the time of the sports was drawing near and the athletes had reached perfection. The whole student body and the five athletes left early for Almonte. We felt sure of winning the cup, which had been donated ‘by the late Honourable John A. Stewart of Perth, for competition between Perth, Carleton Place, Al- monte and Smiths Falls. Our renoumed half-mile relay team, composed of J. Meade, M. Be as, G. Parker and V. Babcock crashed our high hopes when they were disqualified. | : In the shot-put, Robert Preston held up our end, winning a place. We led Perth by one half point. In the rumning events of the senior class, J. Earle, J. Babcock and M. Sylvain won many of our points and made a good showing against J. La- pointe of Perth. The event which was to decide the cup was the pole vault. The men ia this event for our school were J. Earle, E. DeMarse and C. Garton.
