The Minesing Public Library may be small but it has an important presence in the community. In 1908 the Minesing Women's Institute began a movement to establish a circulating library. The growing collection of books found their first home in the manse of the Minesing United Church in 1943. In 1957 the books were moved to the rectory of St. Peter's Anglican Church. After that minster left, members of the Women's Institute rescued the books from their storage place and brought them to their next home at Blanche and Victor Thew's. When a new school was built the old building was renovated becoming the Minesing Community Centre. The growing book collection was moved to the centre in 1964.
Today the library is located in two rooms in the Community Centre. Approximately 2,160 books, plus numerous resource materials, fill the floor-to-ceiling shelves that line each of its walls. Visitors are greeted by one of the librarians - either Carol Grenier, Shaun Fox, Dee-Anne Byers or Senga Coutts - who grace the library with their warmth and helpfulness. During April 1991 library users can look forward to 'Story Time' held every Friday from 10:30-11:00. A new selection of books arrives via the Bookmobile from the County of Simcoe Library Co-operative on April 16th. There will be a 'May Court Puppet Show' on April 26th at 11:00. Kindergarten students from Minesing Central Public School will attend the puppet show, along with interested members of the community. Admittance to the event is free, made possible through the contributions of the Minesing Women's Institute. The Minesing Library is open on Tuesdays from 2:00 to 8:00; Thursdays from 2:00 to 6:00; and Fridays from 10:00 to 1:00. You can phone the librarian at 722-6440 during these hours for additional information about library activities.
