- ADMINISTRATIVE HISTORY
The St. Jerome's Centre for Catholic Experience was launched in the fall of 1982 under the directorship of Dr. Michael W. Higgins. A series of lectures and workshops initiated the Centre's first year of operation. Its mandate is to provide a forum for the public discussion of issues of spirituality and social justice, as well as for a broad range of theological issues of topical concern. It is intended to make Catholics and other Christian communities aware of the various challenges to their faith in contemporary society. While in both approach and content the Centre has a clearly ecumenical outlook, it also provides a forum for serious and responsible discussion of topics central to the Catholic tradition.
To meet its mandate the St. Jerome's Centre for Catholic Experience offers guest lectures and seminars, conferences, workshops, retreats, and mini-courses. It is jointly sponsored by St. Jerome's University, the School Sisters of Notre Dame, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Hamilton and the Congregation of the Resurrection.
As of September, 2008 the Centre for Catholic Experience ceased to exist. It has been replaced by The St. Jerome's Lectures in Catholic Experience, which is now under the umbrella of the new St. Jerome's Centre for Responsible Citizenship.
SCOPE AND CONTENTS
This subgroup includes the records of Centre events (publicity, correspondence, biographies and curricula vitae of speakers, schedules and timetables), the agendas and minutes of meetings of the Centre's Advisory Committee, financial records, publicity brochures and news releases to the media, address lists, newspaper and journal articles, and the agendas and minutes of meetings of the Association of Diocesan Directors of Retreat and Renewal Centres for the Diocese of Hamilton, Ontario as well as audio and visual material.
The records are arranged in 10 series:

10) Audio and video cassette recordings for the lecture series.

St. Jerome's University is located in Waterloo, Ontario, and is situated in the University of Waterloo. It was founded as St. Jerome's College in 1865 by the Congregation of the Resurrection. In 1959, it was granted university status and changed its name to the University of St. Jerome's College. It has been federated with the University of Waterloo since 1960. In 1998, the name was officially changed to St. Jerome's University.
