- ADMINISTRATIVE HISTORY
An academic department within St. Jerome's University, the English department is responsible for teaching English literature, composition, literary criticism and writing skills. The faculty at St. Jerome's co-operates and co-ordinates the English program with the faculty of the English department at the University of Waterloo and are considered to be both members of the department at St. Jerome's and at the University.
St. Jerome's has academic responsiblity for all English students enrolled through St. Jerome's, the department receives its budget from St. Jerome's, and hires its faculty independently of the University of Waterloo. The chairperson of the department is chosen by the faculty of the English department at St. Jerome's.
SCOPE AND CONTENT
The records for the English Department include administrative and general correspondence; agendas and minutes of departmental meetings; departmental planning reports and projections; financial records; course offerings and descriptions; enrolment statistics; Canada Council readings (including photographs of some of the authors); and special events or programs sponsored in part by the English department.

St. Jerome's University is located in Waterloo, Ontario, and is situated in the University of Waterloo. It was founded as St. Jerome's College in 1865 by the Congregation of the Resurrection. In 1959, it was granted university status and changed its name to the University of St. Jerome's College. It has been federated with the University of Waterloo since 1960. In 1998, the name was officially changed to St. Jerome's University.
