These are your candidates VICE-PRESIDENT (Toronto Region) Jim Corrigan (BA '76) Jim originally hails from Kitchener and lived there during his student days. He was active on the student union's orientation committee and was involved in many parish activities. Upon his graduation in psychology he worked in sales with Bell Canada and today is with Kemi Corporation Business Systems of Toronto. He enjoys scuba diving, skiing and reading and tells us he's getting married in July. "Let's try to develop that unique atmosphere we shared as students so that it becomes a part of the present and future life of St. Jerome's," Jim says of his hopes for an alumni association. Patricia Predovich (nee Angus) (BA '69) Following her graduation Pat worked for Bell Canada in the Accounting Department until her first child was born in 1975. She has been married for 14 years to Ken, and they have two children aged 9 and 6. Pat assists with the parent committees at her children's school in Scarborough. As a student Pat was involved in the parish music group, the Winterland '67 and Grad Ball '69 Committees and also worked in the College library. Pat and Ken's picture graced the front page of Update! in December. "I can only promise to do my best to make our alumni association a strong and viable organization," says Pat. Paul Rucurean (BMath '79) Paul is the Manager of Health and Safety for A & P Foods of Canada Ltd. His work primarily involves employee-company relations in areas such as accident prevention and administering employee benefit programs. Paul and his wife Ella (BA '78) recently gave birth to twins, Jessica and Amanda, and now belong to the Parents of Twins Association of Toronto. As a student Paul was a prefect in the men's residence for two years and took part in athletic and parish activities. "I'm interested in maintaining contact with the College and its graduates," says Paul. "I think it is important to promote the educational, spiritual and social traditions I enjoyed during my years at St. Jerome's." YEAR REPRESENTATIVES 1960-64 Paul Heffernan (BA '63) As a student Paul lived in the men's residence and served as Treasurer of the UW Students' Council. His BA in history and economics attracted him to the chartered accounting field and he received his CA diploma in 1967. He is today a partner with Clarkson Gordon in Toronto. He and his wife Carol live in Toronto with their five children who range in age from 14 to 3 years. "I'm willing to work to establish a viable alumni association and contribute to the betterment of St. Jerome's College," says Paul. "I think the time has come for such an endeavour." 1965-69 Stephen Flott (BA '67) Following his graduation in 1967 with a BA in History, Steve received an MA in History from UW in 1968. After teaching high school for two years he entered Osgoode Hall Law School and received his LLB in 1973. In 1978 he became Executive V.P. of the Ontario Trucking Association, a position he held until June, 1983, when he became a senior research fellow with the York University/University of Toronto Joint Program in Transportation. "I had many good experiences at St. Jerome's," says Steve, "and would like to continue my involvement and keep in touch with the College and its graduates. It's important to build links between the past and present through an alumni association," he adds. "This can ultimately build a stronger future for the College and its students." 1970-74 George Luciani (BA '71) George is the Chairman of Student Services at St. Thomas More High School in Hamilton and recently served as that school's acting vice-principal. He coaches midget and senior boys' and midget girls' basketball at STM. As a student George lived in the men's residence, was active on the House Council and was the first recipient of the House Spirit Award. "An alumni association is important because it can provide a continuing link with the ongoing process of education," says George. "I would like an alumni association to keep abreast of trends within education so that we can maintain and foster that special atmosphere we enjoyed as students." 1975-79 Mary-Jo O'Brien (nee Voisin) (BA '79) Mary-Jo was closely involved with the University Catholic Parish as a student. She served as peer minister for one year and was instrumental in organizing retreats, volunteer groups and other parish activities. She and her husband Sean lived in Kalamazoo, Michigan for a year and in 1981 they returned to Ontario and Mary-Jo became full-time lay chaplain at St. Jerome's. In 1982 she gave birth to their first child, Connor. Mary-Jo recently received certification as a trained teacher of English as a second language. She makes her home in Waterloo. "I'm very interested in the students at St. Jerome's and in the future of the College generally," she says. "I would hope that an alumni association could help to ensure the quality of education there." 1980-84 Margo Baird (BA '83) See Alumni Profile, page 3 As for her reasons for running, Margo says that she is interested in keeping in touch with St. Jerome's College and its graduates. "I have a lot of love for St. Jerome's and I want to help an alumni association make it an even better place. I would look forward to working with an executive committee." Greg McKernan (BA '81) Following his graduation, Greg taught at Assumption College School in Windsor for one year. In 1983 he completed a BEd from the University of Windsor and today teaches at Fr. Henry Carr High School in Etobicoke. He coaches the cross-country and track and field teams there. As a student, Greg was on the student union for three years and co-chaired the annual Charity Run. "I think an alumni association can bind the College together and help preserve the spirit and values we knew as students," says Greg. Update!/5
