A warm welcome back to SJC! VoL 11 No. 5 SUMMER 1993 University of St. Jerome's College Waterloo, Ontario Canada N2L 3G3 OLD FRIENDS, HAPPY KIDS, GREAT MUSIC, ICE CREAM, and lots of June sunshine were the highlights of the St. Jerome's Mass and Barbecue, held on Sunday, June 6. Over 100 people came back to the College to attend Mass, share a meal and catch up on recent events. The day started on a great note with graduate Kevin Coates (BA '85) taking up his former place at the piano during Mass in Siegfried Hall. Pouring heart and soul into every beat, Kevin was joined by other invited musicians Nan Forler (BA '87), Jane (née Forler) Weber (BA '82) and Steve Martin, as well as members of the University Catholic Community choir. Following Mass, everyone gathered behind Siegfried Hall to honour the late Father Norbert Lavigne, C.R. by dedicating a tree in his name. After welcoming everyone, including several members of Fr. Lavigne's family, Deborah Pecoskie (BA '72) called on College President Doug Letson to say a few words. Letson recalled Fr. Norbert's affection for sailing and the outdoors, noting that, in light of this, the dedication of a tree, a natural symbol of hope, seemed a particularly appropriate gesture. The tree was then blessed by Fr. Jim Wahl, C.R. Finally, to cap off a great day, grads, staff, faculty, friends and family gathered in the SJC quad for a delicious meal of barbecued chicken, hot dogs, fresh salads, rolls, and punch. And, of course, ice cream - the hit of the day with both the little ones and the not-so-little ones! 0 I. to r. Deb Pecoskie, Doug Letson, Allan Lavigne, Fr. Jim Wahl, Romeo Lavigne, Tim Pegg, Ardella Lavigne, Ted Pegg, Carolyn Pegg, and in front, Robert Pegg. Elizabeth (BA '85) and P.J. Motz share a quiet moment together. Future SJC grad!
