Board Approves SJU Site Development Plan At a special meeting, The Board of Governors of St. Jerome's University held on March 19, 2009, a phased plan was approved to revamp and revitalize the campus. St. Jerome's has outgrown our current facility. The facility must grow to meet the needs of our community as we look toward the future, especially as we prepare for our 150th anniversary in 2015. In 2007, St. Jerome's University conducted a survey of our graduates, current students, faculty and staff, to help us reflect on how effectively we have practiced our mission and to develop a vision for our future. Two of the most significant responses identified St. Jerome's as a place where students can expect "smaller classes" and personal attention: "people knew my name." St. Jerome's is about students experiencing excellent higher education within an attentive and caring environment. Most recently, surveyed students responded overwhelmingly that what defines SJU for them is a "welcoming community" and a "smaller, more intimate environment." A revamped and revitalized campus is needed to ensure that we are able to continue to deliver the strong student-engagement and student-focused approach St. Jerome's grads have enjoyed for decades. We look to the future with a primary commitment to creating welcoming spaces, small and flexible teaching environments, and work areas in which students can engage collaboratively and creatively. At the core of our revitalized campus is a new multilevel building, an extension of the library, and a student-services hub. Details of this exciting development will be in future editions of Update! St. Jerome's is much more than just blackboards, overheads, and lectures; it is the character of its people, the dynamic conversation that extends beyond the classroom, and the ability to turn exceptional students into the leaders of tomorrow. - Sebastien Kundra, former Student Union President 3 Architect rendition of purposed building site
