- BIOGRAPHY
Peter Hinchcliffe was a well-respected English professor who taught at St. Jerome's from 1969 to 2001. While at St. Jerome's, Professor Hinchcliffe chaired the Department of English, chaired College Council and the Ad Hoc Handbook Committee, served as a consulting editor for the St. Jerome's Alumni newsletter, "Update!", served for many years on the Admissions Committee and becoming the authority on the admission of foreign students for the entire University of Waterloo, and he co-organized the conference on Magic Realism Writing in Canada (May, 1985) which attracted one hundred participants from across Canada.
He edited or co-edited several books on Canadian Literature and also authored numerous journal articles.
In 2013 the Peter Hinchcliffe Fiction Award was established, sponsored by the St. Jerome's University English Department, to honor Professor Hinchcliffe as being instrumental in founding the magazine, "The New Quarterly" (which is housed at St. Jerome's), as well as for his service of many years as its co-editor. The award also recognizes his outstanding contributions to the English Department at St. Jerome's.
Peter Hinchcliffe was a long-time supporter of the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery and served in a leadership capacity at The Trillium Foundation.

St. Jerome's University is located in Waterloo, Ontario, and is situated in the University of Waterloo. It was founded as St. Jerome's College in 1865 by the Congregation of the Resurrection. In 1959, it was granted university status and changed its name to the University of St. Jerome's College. It has been federated with the University of Waterloo since 1960. In 1998, the name was officially changed to St. Jerome's University.
