-9� building was planned, the corner stone of which was laid by his Excellency, Archbishop Sbarretti, Apostolic Delegate to Canada, on August 8th, 1907, in the presence of many church and state dignitaries, a numerous gathering of the College alumni and a large concourse of people. This addition which was formally opened in September 1908, is one hundred and sixty-five feet long, has a high basement and four storeys. The basement wall is a grey stone, the body of the building of red pressed brick. The massive columns, pilasters, capitals and all face decorations are of white Corinthian stone. It is equipped with the most modern conveniences and hygienic requirements. On November 29th, 1908, fire destroyed the west wing known as the "old building." To substitute it and to meet the larger requirements, a new building, commodious and architecturally beautiful was begun in the spring of 1909 and, completed in 1910. It contains dormitories, a gymnasium 134 x 60 feet, a hundred-yard running track, swimming pool 45 x 20 feet, shower baths, and a spacious auditorium. CHARTER St. Jerome's College is a legal corporation under Canadian Statute. By an act of Legislature, assented to on August 15th, 1866, it was incorporated. In the preamble of the charter it is said: "Whereas Right Rev. Bishop John Farrell, D. D., Eugene Funcken, Edward Glowacki, Francis Breitkopf, Louis Funcken, Ludwig Elena and other persons of the County of Waterloo, have by their petition represented to the Legislature, that for some time past a College has been established in the said County of Waterloo for the education of youth in the usual branches of a college education and have prayed that corporate power may be conferred on the said College, and in consideration of the great advantages to be derived from the said establishment, it is expedient to grant the prayer of the said petition: Therefore, Her Majesty by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and Assembly of Canada enacts as follows:" Here follow provisions for the
