Bring your cast-offs - someone will find them valuable and pay you good money for them. Bring friends and neighbours - make it a fun day! In the year 1919, it was decided that Weston needed a new public school so in February of that year, a by-law was presented to the ratepayers proposing that a school be built. To everyone's surprise, the proposal was voted down. However, the Board and the Town Council decided that the school was necessary and proceeded to build what is now Weston Memorial School. The contract for approximately $60,000 was awarded to S. B. Coon and Son who were both the architects and supervising contractors. The cornerstone was officially laid by the Minister of Education, The Honourable H. J. Cody in July of 1919 and the school was officially opened on April 7th, 1920. At the time the school was built, Queen'sDrive was know as Maria Street, so of course, the school was named Maria Street Public School. After one year, the Town decided to change the name to Memorial Public School to commemorate the people of Weston who died in the First World War. The first of many additions was made to the school COMMUNITY nlllll AND BEDDING PLANT SALE THIS ANNUAL EVENT TO TAKE PLACE SAT. MAY 28th.
