contact me. This past June, I was appointed by our Board to a Provincial Task force to find ways for Metro‘s School Boards to combine services to save money. The group began work this summer and we are expected to finish by June 1995. Many of the public boards and municipalities in Metro have already started looking at ways to share services, including purchasing, warehousing and computer services but the Provincial Task Force will make recommendations about the best way for boards to set up coâ€"operative delivery of all educational services, not just administrative tasks. The task force consists of 14 members, including four members from the Metro Separate School Board, and one member from each of the eight public school boards. I will keep you informed of our progress! The Weston Fall Fair is fast approaching and the Ward 6 schools will be displaying their second annual art contest winners. Also participating in the festivities will be the newly formed York Board of Education‘s musical group "The Collaborations". See you at the Fair! As I reported to you in my May Newsletter, Weston Collegiate students launched a "Purple Ribbon Campaign" last spring, speaking out against the violence in their school, The campaign caught the attention of many staff members, parents and the Minister of Education. I am now working on extending the campaign including assemblies, to all City of York High Schools in the New Year. This summer was a bad time for vandalism in Ward 6 schools and parks. All three Weston schools, and the new Elm Park Play equipment were vandalized with graffiti. There were significant costs to have this removed. Principals and Staff members from our schools are aware of the damage and will speak with the students. If you live in the area of the schools or Elm Park and notice anyone who may be damaging public property, call the Police. We have notified them of the situation and they are monitoring our neighbourhood. I hope that with a concentrated community effort, we can control the damage. With the good summer weather helping, the construction at H. J. Alexander is now well underway and on schedule. I know the students, staff and parents are looking forward to next September. Many thanks to H. J. students and staff for wonderful painted murals now installed on the hoarding around the site. They brighten up area. I would like to say a special ‘Thank You‘ to the Weston Lion‘s Club for their generous donation to the Board of $5,000.00 for each of the next two years. This money will be used to help offset the cost of the Lions Quest Program. This Program which has been implemented in a number of City of York Schools is a very worthwhile program, helping our young people become better citizens and our community a better place in the future. Another school year has begun and I hope everyone had a great summer. With the Municipal Elections coming up in November, I know it will be a busy time. I have now officially opened my campaign office at 216 King Street. This Wednesday, September 28, 1994, I will be having my Campaign Kickâ€"off Fund Raiser at the Central Restaurant. Tickets are $10.00 and are available either from myself or at the Central Restaurant. The fund raiser is from 6:00 to 9:00 pm.
