Letmelist just some of the reasons: BANDS â€" First off, there will be more of them than in previous years and all of them will be of very high quality, including The Samba Squad! FLOATS â€" In addition to our many incredible community floats, the Shriners _ will be back with their train float which will excite and delight both children _ and adults alike. We are very happy to have Scotiabank back in our parade this year and of course, Victory Community Credit Union will no doubt be a ; serious contender for Parade Marshal‘s Choice once again! As well, the whole community will be participating including scouts, guides, churches, schools, sports leagues, clubs and local businesses. May I especially urge you to bring nonâ€"perishable donations for W.A.E.S., our local food bank. They will be collecting along the parade route. Our public services such as Toronto Police Services, Toronto Fire Services, EMS, Toronto Public Library and our postal carriers will also participate. You and your family will be thrilled and entertained both before and during the parade by magicians, clowns, acrobats and unicyclists all leading up to the main reason for the event â€" to welcome Santa to Weston and into our hearts. As always, Santa will be the focus of attention but his appearance will be preceded, as is only appropriate, by highly entertaining bands and floats. In short, our 25th Annual Parade will be the best yet! Tell all your family and friends to mark it on their calendar NOW! This event is organized and funded in part by the Weston Business Community. Kindly show your support by shopping and patronizing our restaurants and stores in Weston during the Christmas season and throughout the year. As well, the parade would not be possible without our corporate sponsors whose names are featured in this newspaper. Don‘t hesitate to recognize their support by utilizing their services or dropping them a note of appreciation. Finally, on behalf of the Weston Business Community, may I sincerely wish everyone in the greater Weston area a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year! Representatives of Toronto‘s Emergency Services, including Police Chie§ Julian I?antino attended to honour the residents and emergency service workers who lost their lives durinF that tragedy. I am honoured that they were able to join me in dedicating a mural to commemorate that horrific event. City Council also considered the issue of renaming duplicate and trillj)licate streets. I am pleased to inform you that it was agreed that streets within the Town of Weston would be exempt from this initiative. As a result, streets within the former Town of Weston having a duplicate name, will have the suffix ‘"Weston" added to their name. I %eel that this decision has led to Weston keeping its unique identity as a community and should therefore be considered a victory. It is unfortunate that Chief Julian Fantino has only a few months left, until his contract as Chief of Police expires in 2005. I am proud of the work that he has done and the many positive contributions that he has made to our community and to the City of Toronto throughout his years of public service. As part of our annual tradition to launch the Holiday Season, I hope that you willll)Je able to join me at the 25" Annual Weston Santa Claus Parade. It will take place on November 28", 2004 beginning at 2 p.m. As always, it will be an exciting and fun time for everyone. 100 Queen Street West community. _ An initiative is taking place, which is being led by the Weston Historical Society, to have Weston declared as a Heritage District.
