In its chaste and elegant appearance it rivals the best of its American contemporaries, while in the character and popular interest of its contents it scores a decided success, The magazine is devoted to politics, science and general literatare, and purâ€" poses filling in some measure, in the discussion of public questions, the place filled in Britain and the United States by the leading reviews of theso cotintries. The greater portion of the magazine will, however, be givemn to articles, "fiction and poetry, similar in kind to the ~wontents of the best literary monthlies. The political articles will be‘contributed by leading statesmen and writers of both political ;parties, and appeariog . under the names of the indjvidual writers as full and exhaustive discussions of timely toples of public consern, will possess unusual interest and value : in fact no intelligent stodent of pomrlnlum can afford to negloot reading In the presedt number are artioles on Canada and l:::d Federatiop, Edward Blake and Treland, a Cheap aod Simple Franâ€" On Saturday morning a passenger train on the Grand Trunk from the West and n â€"special freight on the Oraugeville branch of the C. The engine of the freight crashed into the express car of the passenger train and upset things to such an extent that the road was not clear for the greater part of the day. The conductor, Mr. Bridge, of the cxpress, had his . hand smashed. In consequence of the above the calculations of several people in Weston were comâ€" pletely upset, As the express due at Wesâ€" ton at 8.11 and the train due here from the West at 10.30 did not pat in an apâ€" pearance. The .mail train that .went West from here about 9 a. m. returned after reaching Brampton, the passengers and mail being transferred to the train due at Brampton at 10 a. m. from the West, which went back.
