This group of workers are to be praised for the work they do over the year. They visit the homes each month keeping in touch with the whole parish. They also make a véery large donation each year to the warâ€" dens for the work of the church. Their contribution is most acâ€" ceptable. Last Wednesday night, May 19, a very successful Euchre and Bridge party was held . under the sponsorship of the Women of the Church. It was an opporâ€" tunity for the members of the congregation to spend a social hour in good company. Ascention Day services will be held this year at St. Timâ€" othyâ€"onâ€"the â€" Humber, _ Thursday night May the 27th. The four choirs will combine to sing the service. St. Stephen‘s, St. Davids and St. John‘s will attend with St. Timothy. All members of each congregation are invited. Men of the Parish did a fine job on Saturday when they dug up and levelled the grounds around the church. It is planned lIto landscape these and thus imâ€" prove the setting. X. Bridge Party At $t. John‘s The national convertion, which more civic leaders are starting to call conference, has just concluded with four days in Windsor and four nights in Detroit although. the second city hardly was considered part of the official municipal conferâ€" ence. What is the value of such a national conference and what will be the value of the provinâ€" cial conference, to be held this This year, as in the past, Etoâ€" bicoke, York Township and Wesâ€" ton were not represented at the national conference. Some other Metro suburbs were represented but the number is growing less each year from the Metro area. Each year the civic elected representatives uf the Metro arâ€" ea pack their suiteases and head out to the national municipal conférence or the provincial municipal conference to gain new information and exchange opinions on civic government. There are 20 million reasons to prevent forest fires in Canâ€" ada. Every citizen depends upâ€" on our forests for wood, work, relaxation or the tax revenue they produce. For your own sake and that of the Nation, prevent forest fires. There is no clear cut line of demarcation between the civic representative who is from a city or a town or a township. At a provincial conference trne municipal representatives have more in common and have a greater appreciation and underâ€" standing of his neighbors prob lem. There is an indication that the national municipal conferâ€" ence is dying on its feet. This is not the case for the provinâ€" cial organization which is gainâ€" ing new membership and new The provincial â€" conference, however, is more to the liking of elected civic representatives. Over the years, the survivors of periodic civic elections become veterans and get to know sach other and the problems each of their municipalities in the proâ€" vince, has to face. The two largest cities in Canâ€" ada have their own way of treatâ€" ing the national municipal conâ€" ference. The city of Montreal sends no representatives. From the city of Toronto the mayor stays for one day, leaving beâ€" hind an alderman as his emâ€" issary. f + A national conference takes place and the Metro representaâ€" tives who see each other on a year round basis, cluster togethâ€" er, making little effort to exâ€" change views with the civie man from Newfoundland or Vancouyâ€" The value can be measured in two ways. The first is the nationâ€" al conference under the banner of the Canadian Federation of Mayors and Municipalities. While there are general probâ€" lems similar to municipalities in each province and there is room for a ;national exchange of opinion, there is little chance of a nationâ€"wide municipal polâ€" icy. er. The difference between the city, town and township repreâ€" sentative at a national conferâ€" ence is far greater at a national conference than in Metro Torâ€" onto. The national conference is usâ€" ed to make demands on the Fedâ€" eral government. There is little interest‘ among the individual civiec representatives at the natâ€" ional conference. year in Kitenener? PREVENT FOREST FIRES Preceding his talk, Mr. Fisher was the recipient of a tribute in song by international known, soprano soloist, Dorothy Greene. Accompanying herseif at the piano, Miss. Copies of the two "new books that deal with 2,,wers to Mr. Berton‘s book are available in the book rack at the church. ‘Coming Soon‘ was an attractâ€" ive heading in the St. John‘s weekly Bulletin. It stated first the new curriculum for the church school. This is an advanâ€" ced method that, it is hoped, will produce a solid foundation for churchmanship. Also a new lighting system for the church was in service. This will make a perfect setting for and will improve the general appearance of the church.
