After «ll it is the American who is the foreigner â€" not the Viet Cong. _ “Wi!y"d; the Americans, and Communists in China and Vietnamese find it so easy to shoot each other and innocent bystanders while finding it so difficult to stop .the war? _ Prior to 1949, the Chinese people were sick, fed up and starving under the American supported dictatorship of Chiang Kaiâ€"Shek. When a small Communist movement grew, more and more people were attracted by it and marched with the Communist army which chased Chiang and his army over to Formosa where he to this day is still protectâ€" ed by the U.S. The Communists then chased the French out of Indo The China. Having lost 90,000 lives the Frenth had their fill of the East and a small American detachment of "advisers" movâ€" ed into Viet Nam. At about the same ti an agreement was ratified in Geneva that the Vietnamese wou? allowâ€" ed to determine their political and government fut 1 a free vote to be held‘in 1960. When the year came for the election. the unpopular Diem family was the vésted govâ€" ermnment in the south and received support and the proâ€" tection of the U.S. military might. That election never came and war began. t 2s 1 The Communists said they were fighting to liberate the country from "Yankees‘" and dictatorial rule. and the govâ€" ernment and Americans in the south vowed to destrov the threat of Communism. _ S e L o + The solution to the war is simple enough for a child to understand. All. that is needed is an agreement by the U.S., China, and the governments of North and South Viet Nam to let the people decide their own fate. It is their country, let them run their own affairs. _ | ~ â€"Perhaps the reason the U.S: is so involved in the war is the fact that it has failed the people miserably in promisâ€" ing them.a voice in government. 0 _ Since then, the U.S. military has been dropping bombs and shelling every position where there is suspicion that tharedml_v be a few Communist soldiers of Viet Cong around. > Do the Americans gain any respect by slaughtering inâ€" nocent villagers who have to be in the way of the bombs? Yes. they play right into the hands of the Communists who gain allies of fathers, uncles and brothers of many ot those who are killed. 4 â€" Why has the U.S. finally shown signs of being willing to stop the bloodshed in Viet.Nam?
