SUNDAY, AUGUST 14, 1966 Evangelist Meryle Dolan Gordon Hamilton Services WESTON RD. & LAWRENCE To Bargain With Teachers Downsview trustee Jack Newâ€" tou has called for Metro school board to take over teacher sal ary negotiations from area At the North York Board of Education meeting Monday, the trustee said it was "ridiculous" for area boards to compete in salary negotiations in an effort to attract the best teachers to thrir education systems. His motion said the Metro school board should equalize salaries across Metro. Trustee Gordon Risk, also of Downsview, said salary negotiations belong at "‘the top level." The only way teachers everywhere in Metro will get a "fair deal" if Metro handles the wage scales, he said. Other school boards will be asked to support the motion. Trustee Saul Cowan however, said that the local boards should retain the right to negotiate fringe benefits. New Library . . . Gould said ever since he was clected to council, he has seen the need for a community lib. rary. A few years back, a speâ€" cial commission was formed to determine _ where new North York libraries should be located, said the Ward 1 councilior and it was recommended that a lib. rary somewhere south of Highâ€" way 401 and west of Keele St. srould be third on the list. When its turn came to become North York‘s next library, offiâ€" cials pushed it farther down the list, claiming that they didn‘t have a site to build it on, Counâ€" ciilor Gould said. Then, when the Amesbury peoâ€" pie got together and agreed to dedicate part of their park for the building, it still remained near the bottom of the list. Slights like this hurt, said Joe Gould, but when the new $125,â€" 000 library, stocked with 20,000 books opens next year, all shall be forgiven. 11,00 am & 7.00 pm Open Air Services At The Weston Band Shell (Continued from Page 1) SPECIAL .m. Dennis Plan . . . township is one of the smallest is Metro, and York officials conâ€" tend that this situation can only be changed through massive re dcvelopment which will bring in new assessments. New buildings along Weston Rd. and Jane St. also appear to be inevitable. ‘North York councilior Joe Gould says that applications have been made to redevelop the complete east side of Jane St. between Lawrence Ave. and Highway 401. SIX NEW COMPLEXES Weston Mayor Wes Boddingâ€" tun says his council is currently negotiating with developers to build at least six new complexes in the Weston Rd.â€"Lawrence Ave. area. If the new Mount Dennis plan is ever completed, the area will be a high density "city‘" of skyâ€" scrapers, expressways, homes ano parks. _ â€" Eventually the Metro Conservâ€" ation Authority is expected to acquire Eglinton Flats and turn it into a huge park. The Highâ€" way 400 extension will reach down to Eglinton Flats and will be linked with the Richview Exâ€" pressway which will be connectâ€" ed to Highway 27.
