1y 4 One Of The Founders Of Westminister United, Mrs. Ernest Ella Leaves Town Mrs. Ella was born in Emery in 1881, and has been a resident of Weston since she moved here more than 50 years ago. She and her husband were members of Weston Presbyterian Church and helped to found Westminâ€" ster Presbyterian Church when it was formed as a branch of After 85 years of active livâ€" ing in the Weston district, Mrs. Ernest Ella has hung . up her apron and retired to live with her _ married . daughter _ in Oshawa. During the past week local organizations of which "Susie" was an active member until retirement recalled her temporarily to her hometown here to pay tribute to her long faithful participation in their activities. Mrs. | Ella, during her work for the | Lions‘ Club developed a keen | interest and appreciation of the | work of that organization. Perhaps the highlight of her career came when she was inâ€" terviewed on television by Kate Aitken a few years ago. During the program Mrs. Ella was able to pass along many hints on church and other largeâ€"group catering to members of other women‘s groups in the Province. In addition to being flower convener of the Church for many years, Mrs. Ella has alâ€" ways been active in the houseâ€" keeping activities of the W.A. For many years past she has been social convener of the As sociation and has gained a thorough knowledge of catering for large groups. She is well known for her insistence on good housekeeping practice ir the thurch‘s kitchen. Just the evening previous to the tea at Westminster Church, Mrs. Ella had been the guest of her fellow members of the Wesâ€" ton Lawn Bowling Association who met to say goodâ€"bye to her after a membership of 30 years. Here again, Mrs. Ella contribuâ€" ted her wonderful housekeepâ€" ing talent to her association, acting as the social convener for 20 years. From these friends Mrs. Ella recevied an electric blanket. The brighteyed freshness of so many of today‘s teenage girls is no accident. It is the result of scrupulous care of â€" clothes and skin. For professional adâ€" vice on the application of makeâ€" | up, with particular attention to | eye cosmetics, Weston girls are | invited to attend the "Makeâ€"Up ; and Skin Care" course which | our local YWCA is offering for | three Wednesday evenings, beâ€" ginning October 12th. For the very nominal course fee, memâ€" bers will have the benefit of the training and experience of the instructos, Miss Shirley Murray, who is a trained professiional modelling teacher. Mrs. Ella‘s memories of her life in Weston must be full of tea and dinners â€" and mounâ€" tains of dishes. We trust they also include warm remembrancâ€" es of friends and fun, of accomâ€" plishments and of appreciative recognition. She has contributâ€" ed actively to life in her town and deserves a long rest in health and contentment. burned a few years ago, her contribution was recognized by an invitation to participate in the ceremonies. Although there are more than 100 types of cancer known to doctors, just 6 types acount for 60% of all cases of the disease and for 50% of all deaths from cancer. Many of these deaths are preventable with early diagâ€" nosis and treatment. These facts were brought home to the audience at the Open Meeting of the Weston Unit, Canadian Cancer Society last Thursday evening by the speaker, Maurice J. Grimes, Exâ€" ecutive Director of the Ontario Division, Canadian Cancer Soâ€" ciety. The meeting was . presided over by the President of Weston Unit, Mr. W. C. Moffat The mayor of Weston, W. C.
