Safety studs legal for winter rally New ideas and devices will advance heat and humidity in the home â€"By adjusting a knob, the heater can be positioned up or down the pole which means inâ€" stant radiant heat can be proâ€" vided at any level. As an added safety factor, the adjustable heater can easily be placed beâ€" yond the reach of small chilâ€" dren. The British Empite Motor Club of Toronto, organizers of the 16th Annual Canadian Winâ€" ter Rally, have announced their decision to allow the use of studded snow. tires in this winter‘s rally which takes place February 9, 10, 11. The decision is a complete reversal of last year‘s ruling which banned the use of the safety devise. The ban was enâ€" forced because of the Province of Ontario‘s law against the use of "metalâ€" lugs" on highâ€" ways and also to make the competition closer between the often unstudded private entries and the well studded factory sponsored teams. The new heater, thermostatiâ€" cally controlled with a 3760 BTU rating, operates on a pole that fits between floor and ceiling. Since the pole can be moved from room to room withâ€" out disassembly, the heater is designed to meet multiple needs in offices, cottages, garages, patios, trailers, bedrooms or basements. The tures: A new space heater that occupies only . 14 inches of floor space has been introduced by Canadian Westinghouse. The recent ruling by the Ontario Government that alâ€" lows studded tires on provinâ€" cial highways gave rise to speculation among rallyists as to whether or not studs would be allowed this winter. Having The fourth place Bisons are definitely on the move. Last week they held the Royals to a 2â€"2 tie. This week it was the first place Bears. Without doubt the respective goalies Mike Dodd for the Bisons and Chuck Gallo had an easy time getting his shutout for the Cougars because his defense didn‘t allow any shots on goal during the entire 40 minutes. At the other end Ross Byers had to be sharp as he was tested time and again by the Gougar offense but he kept a tidy doorstep. Dave Murphy and Mark Burford were outâ€" standing for the Cougars while Stephen Kerr played well for his Wildeats. Bears 0, Bisons 0 The Mustangs kept close to the league leaders by barely beating the Tigers in a hard fought game by a two to one score. Bruce Barran got an unâ€" assisted goal for his team who played great hockey but couldn‘t overcome the lead esâ€" tablished by David Bacon and Don Outerbridge who scored for the Mustangs with Shawn Severn getting an assist on the second goal. Wildcats 0, Cougars 0 With their regular goalie back in the nets the league leading Jaguars downed the Regals with Mark Stanford getting the shut out. Scoring two goals Tom Mulligan was assisted by Dave Kissick and Jerry Power. Brother Tim Power also got one goal and two assists. Jim Dippel played well for the Regals. The chrome pole comes in three sections and is adjustable to ceilings from six foot six to nine feet two. Since the pole is springâ€"loaded with a jackscrew on the bottom, it can be moved in a matter of seconds. A sevenâ€" foot power cord connects to the electrical outlet. The heater, cylindrical in shape, has a bright chrome safety grill and guards and an aluminum reflector. The sugâ€" gested retail price is $22.95. The number of studs allowed closely resembles the number of studs that can be placed in snow tires now being sold over the counters of tire suppliers. a full 360 degrees so that heat is directed towards specific areas. The new space heater, meaâ€" suring 5%" in diameter and 16%" high, operates at 1,000 watts, 115 volt. one obstacle remaining, the vast difference in the number of â€"studsâ€" used, George Hill, clerk of the course, has made a ruling on the number of studs to be allowed. The ruling alâ€" lows 72 studs in 10 inch tires, 90 studs in 12 inch tires, 100 studs in 13 inch tires and 120 studs in 14 and 15 inch tires. The rally starts on Friday evening February 9th at 2000 Eglinton Avenue East, Toronto, and follows a 1,200 mile route through the back roads of Onâ€" tario and Quebec. There will be a ten hour rest stop at Ottawa midway through the route beâ€" fore heading for the rally end on Sunday afternoon at rally headquarters on Eglinton Aveâ€" nue East. Team McDonald Appliance Eagles Roe Tractor Rams Wajax Hornets Conbrad Hawks At the halfway mark of the season the team standing and individual scoring statistics are as follows: The Cubs played the afterâ€" noon‘s finest _ game of skating, checking and positional play. They did everything but score. This department was left to big Pat O‘Neill who showed why he leads the league in scoring (12â€"2) with three deadly shots. His second hat trick of the season. Ivan Obrknez proved to be Pat‘s right hand man as he set up two of them. Ron Rothfuchs played at his best to earn his third shutout of the season. Three teams, the Bears, Wolves and Royals are tied for first place followed at a distance by the Bisons, Cubs and Flyers. This Saturday the Royals and Bears open the 1968 season with what should be a dandy of a game. The Wolves showed their scoring and checking power with this oneâ€"sided win. The two players who did most of the damage were David Bunsâ€" ton with two goals and an asâ€" sist and Graham Clegg with two goals. Other Wolves marksmen were Ralph Kroman and Bryan Gibson. Randy Wigâ€" gins picked up a single assist. For the Flyers, Scott Dixon back handed a beauty on a passing play with teammate Angus McPherson assisting. Royals 3, Cubs 0 Gord Southworth for the Bears were the big reason for this scoreless tie. For Southworth and the Bears it was the fourth consecutive shutout game. An honourable mention goes to Albert Lookâ€" who played a strong game on the Bison deâ€" fence. Wolves 6, Flyers 1 PEE WEE DIVISION TEAM STANDINGS Thursday, January 4, 1968 W L TPts 6 0 3 15 3 2 4 10 Power humidifiers of various designs, shapes and sizes are available in three different types: atomizing, evaporating and vaporizing. There is, howâ€" ever, a need for greater awareâ€" ness on the part of the homeâ€" owner as to the ease with which the humidification problem can be handled and overcome with available equipment. The problem is frequently reâ€" garded as one which has to be endured whereas power humidiâ€" fiers and automatic humidistats can provide greatly increased home comfort during the heatâ€" ing season. When controlled humidity is made an integral part of the modern home comfort system, the home owner will experience greater satisfaction from his home heating system and a greater satisfaction from his home heating system and a great many of the problems posed by dry air in the home will disappear. To illustrate the point, people in a home heated to 72 degrees and 50% relative humidity will experience the same sensation of warmth that would be felt if the home were heated to 77 degrees with only 18% relative humidity. In other words, a difâ€" ference of 32% relative humidâ€" ity in this case makes a differâ€" ence of 5 degrees in the effecâ€" tive temperature. Temperature and hbumidity together form what is popularly called "the comfort index", alâ€" though a great many home owners are more concerned with temperature alone, they point out. On Saturday, January 6th, campers and counsellors from Beaver Lake Camp will gather at the Old Mill for their annual winter reunion. Summer friendâ€" ships will be renewed, experâ€" iences relived and plans for new adventures discussed. Guests are expected from wideâ€" ly separated points including the U.S.A. Following dinner and a proâ€" gram of entertainment, parents will be invited to attend the presentation of Red . Cross swimming, and Ontario Campâ€" ing Association canoeing awards earned by campers while in camp. Movies of last summer‘s activities will also be shown.
