This system, claims the TTC, allows a speedier operation as both entrance and exit doors can be utilized in both zones. Time lost at the zone checkpoint is easily. made upâ€"by the .case of passenger handling at subsequent stops. In future transit riders will pay the full fare on entering the bus or trolley bus with the operator checking the transfers issued those who paid the full fare when the bus reaches the boundary of the first and second fare zone. The TTC plans to change the fare paying system on three North York transit routes and one route in York. The routes involved would be Bathurst, Weston Rd. and Dufferin. The idea for changing the fare sysâ€" tem on the routesâ€"came from a petition signed by 108 citizens who use the Bathurst route. 4. What does the inspector exâ€" pect of your child: A.A. According to the province the minimum requirement for a day nursery handling 40 children should be three playrooms that serve a dual role in that they can be converted to eating or sleeping rooms. Among the items suggested for the outside playâ€" ground are teeter todders, two sandboxes, swings, climbing equipment, tricycles, wooden building blocks, doll carriages and shovels. A play area of a minimum of 600 square feet is recommended. The rules for organizations seeking Metro grants in the coming year include the following: The organizâ€" ation should be incorporated as nonâ€"profit, the grant should be set on the basis the financial operation of the organization as related to welfare services, no grants shall be made to replace subsidies which may be availâ€" able under other legislation and that the organization shall not limit membership or participation in its actâ€" ivities or services to local municipal boundaries within the Metro federation. : This is the reason why over 60 day care nurseries opâ€" crate in the Metroâ€"region. More than one half are opâ€" erated by private individuals while the church or nonâ€" profit organizations operate the next largest number. t wl s n ce dn ada en Ceee e ce i h ho BB ie e ie cA en . . e e 0 0 C000 Only about 12 public operated day nurseries exist in Metro but Metro government this year will give inâ€" creasing support and attention to the operation of day nurseries as part of its welfare program. _ Metro Welfare Commissioner John Anderson has plans to operate three Metro sponsored day nurseries and if these prove to be a success additional day nursâ€" ery units may be expected in the near future. Metro Welfare Commissioner John Anderson has sugâ€" gested that the primary qualification for municipal aid under a welfare grant program should be private serâ€" vices that remove or prevent poverty, child neglect or outright dependence on public assistance by persons or families. The TTC some time ago advised North York that it would not extend the Dufferin bus route right up to the Metro boundary at Steeles Ave. until at least the fall of 1968. In considering past applications for grants from orâ€" ganizations it was found that there was no clear disâ€" tinction made between welfare, health, recreation and in some cases, education services. The TTC has extended the Dufferin bus route in North York up to Martin Ross Ave. which will serve an adjoining industrial area. Until a road is extended across a hydro right of way the extension will loop along Alness St. and Brisbane Rd. After the extension the bus route will loop along Martin Ross Ave., Alness St. and Finch. Ave. Metro government has set the ground rules for priâ€" vate welfare organizations that will line up in 1968 to ask for a municipal grant. Metro licenses over 1,800 taxicabs. "This is becoming a serious problem," said James Neville, licensing comâ€" mission administrator in commenting on the number of outâ€"ofâ€"town taxicabs coming into Metro looking for busâ€" iness. Most of the entries are made during the rush hour or in the evening, said Mr. Neville. The licensing commission has set a penalty of $100 for any taxi driver from Vaughan Township caught trying to do business in Metro without a Metro license. A second offence will bring a $200 penalty. Some taxicabs from Vaughan Township have been appearing in North York and picking up passengers. Metro Licensing Commission frowns on this activity by unlicensed Metro taxicabs and intends to send out inâ€" spectors to catch the culprits. !/; to /2 off! SALE! METRO AFFAIRS $+29.
