If ‘Bish‘ runs out of magic, the Jr. OLA race could be a wide open affair with a team from Lakeshore being __astrong contender. BASEBALL Our Jr. B hockey writer, Al Hillman, is having diffiâ€" culties in staying above the five hundred mark in Hillâ€" man‘s Hunches column. The Metro Jr. B Group hockey teams are defying all laws of paj ork as they continue to stage upsets. As Al says: “lgow can you figure them chartwise.â€"â€"They all play as though they never heard of a form chart." With this in mind, some of our predictions are going to seem somewhat wild and it will be interesting to see if we manage to get one or two right. HOCKEY Chicago Black Hawks will finally win a Stanley Cup for Coach Billy Reay. They will eliminate Boston in the first round while Toronto Maple Leafs edge Montreal. Chicago will go six games to finally snap the jinx and oust Toronto. In order to win the Stanley Cup in the first year of expansion they will dispose of Philadelphia in the finals. ‘ In amateur hockey, Canada‘s National team will get shot down again in world play, Toronto Marlies will not survive the Ontario Jr. A playoffs and Dixie will edge York Steel in Metro Jr. B playoffs and lose to Sarnia in the all Ontario finals. Toronto Argos will finally reach the Eastern Conâ€" ference finals but will lose out to Ottawa Roughriders who in turn will defeat Calgary for the Grey Cup. Hamilâ€" ton Tiâ€"Cats will guddenly run out of good fortune, as their feared defensive line cannot contain Argos in the first round. This prediction iss ubject to change if Ottawa head coach Frank Clair fails to patch up the dissension within his ranks. LACROSSE The proposed professional league will not get started this year, however more groundwork will be laid toward a 1969 starting date and to include Toronto, Montreal, Det{oit, New York and Chicago and possibly other NHL centers. Toronto Maple Leafs will be back in the Ontario Lacrosse Association Sr. A series and play out of Maple Leaf Gardens with delayed TV coverage. The Canadian senior championship is an impossibility to predict. It depends on what players manage to stay with what teams. In lacrosse, players float around, and while the face may be familiar, the uniform may not be. In Jr. A. lacrosse, the monotony is still with us. As long as Oshagu has Jim Bishop coaching. junior clubs there will be Canadian championships. He is a master of psychology and while he may not have teams equal to those of other teams in the Ontario circuit he uses every situation to advantage. | â€" le foolish enough not to come in out of the rain, we mmto the crystal ball. If you are a gambler, bet against our predictions and you are sure to be a winner. NOW TO PREDICTIONS © FOOTBALL Boston Red Sox will not repeat their fantastic feat of 1967 in winning the American League pennant. Detroit Tigers could be the club to watch with Chicago White Sox battling them right to the final wire. * In the National League, San Francisco may finally nail down the pennant, closely pursued by Pittsburgh, and of all people, New York Mets may finally reach the first division, that is, fifth place. _ _ _ _ thkg 16 116 1 whiy Tysites frig nomiediy ohal ring us. a tri i ing to : t wl might â€"happen in the coming monti‘:- %ut with a reckâ€" lessness reserved only for predicters, prognosticators and Toronto Maple Leafs will be absent in baseball for the first time in some seventy years and likely before the year is ended the stadium atâ€"Fleet St. will be razed for additional airport space. _ _ . . League game at Dixie Arena Sunday night and while Beehive fans went home satisfied that their team had won, there was a certain amount of disappointment for the game did not come up to theâ€" usual standards of a York Steelâ€"Dixie tussle. The victory solidified Dixie‘s hold on top spot in the league race as they moved seven points ahead of second place St. Michâ€" amel‘s Buzzers. For York Steel, it was the second time in three nights that they were foiled in a bid to overtake St. Michael‘s and move into second place, Weston defeated them 7â€"4 at Weston Friday night. The end to end rushes, usually associated with a game between these two teams, was missing for the most part and the Steelers appeared to have trouble getting the puck out of‘ their own end at times. Dixie bombed starting netâ€" minder Rick Quance for two goals in the first period and led 2â€"0 and then fired in three more in the second period, to nail down a 5â€"1 margin. Dixie stuns York Steel to increase league leat Coach George Parsons decided Quance had had enough and reâ€" placed him with Bill Woodyat to start the third period and Dixie promptly scored on him the first shot on the net as John Danby drifted a 20 footer that was labeled goal as it caught the top corner. £ Frank Hodgson .
