Serving Weston For Over 30 Years The day before Good Friday is always a busy one at banks, and Canadian Imperial Bank of Comâ€" merce, Weston Rd. and John St., is no exception. Mr. Barlow received our reâ€" porter courteously and tried to gather his thoughts together for an interview on this special ocâ€" casion, but the growing hum of voices (it was near closing time), sradually dispelled the illusion that something about his long service record with the bank could be put on paper at that time. As patrons were either depositâ€" ing or withdrawing their monies for the long weekâ€"end ahead branch manager Eric F. Barlow was clearing off his desk, in preâ€" paration for his retirement which takes effect this week. He went into the army in 1939 and served overseas from 194245 with the 4th Canadian Armoured Division. After demobilization he returnâ€" ed to the bank. After four years as accountant at New Westminâ€" ster and the Vancouver main ofâ€" fice, he was transferred to Winâ€" nipeg as assistant branch manâ€" ager, then to head office, Toronto, as an inspector, and in April 1960 was appointed manager of the Weston branch. Mr. Barlow is married, with two daughters. Libby, the younger one, is in Grade 12 at Scarlett Heights Collegiate. However. he found a few quiet moments later on to jot down some background facts for the Weston Times:â€" Mr. Barlow joined the staff of Canadian Bank of Commerce in Victoria, B.C. in 1925, after leavâ€" ing high school. Mrs. Barlow is active in the Women‘s Auxiliary of Humber Memorial Hospital. We have no plans at the momâ€" ent to move from our present home on Yorkleigh Ave.. Wesâ€" ton," he said. This is not the first time that a man with a gun has taken potâ€"shots at people in Lambton Park. In January 1966 a man in the park shot Ronald Mullen, 32 of Chestnut Hills Parkway in the legs. Trumpets, guitars, drums, saxâ€" ophone, bass {iddle, clarinet and flute (perhaps) will keep the nineâ€"member (male and female) band, and the congregation, soarâ€" ing on the wings of oldeâ€"tyme lyrics set to upbeat hymn tunes. Seeing the body of a man, wrapped in an Indian blanket lying beside a car stalled crossways on Dundas St. near Lambton Park, was a shock to the motorists passing by just after 8 p.m. a week ago Wednesday night. The university students who are engaged to be marâ€" ried had been shot while parked in Lambton Park by an unidentified 6â€"foot madman. Fortunately the young man was able to drive his car 500 yards to Dundas St. traffic before falling to the roadway. A medical man was bending over the patient while in the car a young girl sat talking to the police. As events proved, the man lying in the middle of the road was 22â€"yearâ€"old Luige Gabriele of Allanhurst Dr., Etobicoke and the girl, 19 year old Darlene Sribâ€" niak of College St. The Pathfinders‘ annual youth service at Westminster United Church Sunday, April 28 will feature a combo (music with a beat) and a panel proâ€"andâ€"con discussion of the thoughtâ€"provokâ€" er, "why go to church?"
