It‘s the kind of art exhibit where you can see a threeâ€" dimensional purple paper monâ€" ster and a sixâ€"foot mural all in the same show. Where you can go from a fingerâ€"painting display to look at designs for room interiors. That‘s what the art exhibition that was held at Applewood Heights Secondary School is all aboutâ€"the progression in art work from kindergarten to grade 11. The show which will run unâ€" til Saturday, is made up of art from 45 public schools and eight secondary schools in this area. It is sponsored by the Missisâ€" sauga board of education. For the last few weeks, a basement storage room in Cooksâ€" ville public school has been fillâ€" ing up with all kinds ‘of art from the public schools. Papierâ€"Mache witch doctor masks, cloth hand puppets, paper ladies with names like Curly Whirly, fingerâ€"paintingsâ€"they‘ve all been sorted and the best selected for the show. At the public school level, one representative from each school chooses one piece of art from each â€" grade. _ The _ secondary schools have been given a cerâ€" tain amount of display room to fill with what they want. ‘The art from the secondary achools . reflects the growing emphasis on art at that level. The exhibits cover sculpturing, ceramics, lettering, poster deâ€" signs, oil painting, murals and photography. . . Gordon McFarlane, coâ€"ordinatar of art for the Mississauga board of education, says there are a lot of students from this area who go on to further study in art. In the past five years, there have been over 125 go into the art field. This year, there are Saturday morning art classes at Port Credit Secondary School for those who want to take it as an option in grade 13. Next year, McFarlane says Gordon â€" Graydon â€" Secondary School expects to have enough students interested to have it as a regular grade 13 subject there. SALLY SCOTT â€" ‘This increased interest in school art is evident at the exâ€" hibition in displays ranging from Dear Sally Scott: My husband‘s mother was forced to give up her home when her husband died, and the only alterâ€" native was to take her to live Recently she suffered a stroke which destroyed her speech, and left her with the mind of a child. 1 face the future with dread and despair. I know my attitude is one of extreme selfishness. I want desâ€" perately to have my life free to devote to my husband and our little daughter. We simply canâ€" not afford to put grandma in a nursing home. Actually she is not ill but needs all the attention that a amall child receives. It means that our Jittle girl will not have her playmates in to play, as the noise would bother my motherâ€" inâ€"law. Our own entertaining will have to be curtailed to a minimum, and we both love to have people in for an evening, What would you suggest, Sally? Dear Mary R: Why not make a list of your problems and a list of your blessâ€" ings, and you will be amazed how much your blessings will outâ€" weigh your problems. Even if she does not succeed, you will be amazed how much happiness your kindness will bring to her. There are many things you can do to help herâ€" perhaps give her a permanent or a new dress, or take her for a walk in the park. I think if you will show kindness to her you will have a happy lady on your hands, and you will find., for yourself peace and contentment. Study every article you can on mental disturbances and their treatment. Try to get your motherâ€"inâ€"law interested in some kind of handiwork. She will not have long to live, and when she passes on you will have a clear eonscience and a wellâ€"done from your husband for Weird and wacky show held by nearby students Lie. tâ€"375 â€"Mary R., Humber Bay SIDING & at x:' srulul'l" :ITAL 293'8745 ALCAN / ALUMINUM EINHARDT OOFING 6 & ’ wilths, vEsTROUGH ALCAN * EA STORM DOORS & WINDOWS _ Sheet Metal 20â€"YEAR WRITTEN GUARANTEE Work 'says; AT APPLEWOOD HEIGHTS the vivid paintings of the grade oners to the polished products of the students who will continue their art commercially. Dear Plain Jane: Unfortunately, there is no one who can change us in an instant, but we can be changed, or to use m better word, developed. Each of us have been given special abilities and talents, Many that we take for granted . .. or don‘t even recognize, .. Just think how changed we would be if we made the most of all of them. Why not go to a charm school, or take a modelling class? It is amazing how some women who attend such schools turn out. Or go to the university extraâ€" mural classes, and take journalâ€" ism or shortâ€"story writing.
