~ | TAX REDUCTIONS | Summer is a busy time for the Borough of York‘s animal conâ€" trol division. Borough destroys 174 cats, 42 dogs During the month of July the animal control department had to destroy 174 cats, 42 dogs, 1 skunk, 13 raccoons, 44 squirrels. There were a total of 331 pets brought into the pound, reports G. R. Banton, animal control ofâ€" ficers. Twelve were claimed, 16 sold and 3 still at the pound. The officers have made 94 house calls re stray animals and answered 66 complaints from borough residents, The complaints ranged from 40 raccoons raiding garbage cans throughout the borâ€" ough to 23 problems concerning squirrels. On June 25, children from York public schools, including C. E. Webster, Silverthorn, Keelesdale and Dennis Jr. visited the animal control centre. Twenâ€" tyâ€"eight classes, 655 children, were on the tour promoted by inspector Phillips. It is planned to make this tour available to all York schools durâ€" ing the next year.
