Throughout the summer months, the schools of North York have been closed to (most activities other thl%n s wimming, allowing r major and minor repairs to be done, ready for opening last week. More students are enrolled in North York schools than ever before, and it is also hoped that even more of the residents will take ‘part in the adult education and parks and recreation programs which will be starting later this month, Neacewcasy Registrations for the swimming program will be accepted this week, and will continue, as long as space is available through next week. The classes for the younger children are always filled early, so you are advised to go to Boylen this week. The swim classes are for all ages and range from primary to royal life saving. The ladies always seem to enjoy the gym and swim classes, and these are again being offered at Nelson A. Boylen secondary school on Thursday nights from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. Public swimming at Boylen is from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights, with the 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. slot on Wednesdays being reserved for adults only. Of course, there is the usual 2:00 to 5:00 period on Saturday afternoon. Mrs. Susan Wood will be instructing the recreational ballet for girls, 3 years and over. Registrations will be accepted at Amesbury community centre on Wednesday, September 18 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. If you have no children at school, or your child didn‘t bring one home, call the North York parks and recreation department and Thursday, September 12, 1968 MAPLE LEAF & AMESBURY 64 Chevv.sedan, V8,auto ... ... 67 Buick special hdtp., loaded .. 65 Country Squire, 3â€"way power 66 Pontiac C.S. convert., loaded 63 Ambas.sedan, V 8,auto.,radio . 65 Ford XL hdtp., all extras ... 63 Plymouth seda, auto.,radio .. 66 Ford Sedan, V8, auto .. ... . 65 Chrysler 4â€"dr., all extras ... . 65 Pontiac 4â€"dr., auto.,radio .. . 150 Rexdale Blvd. 248â€"0711 150 Rexdale Blvd. _ (Just W. of Kipling) Recreation Program "TAKE A SHORT RIDE TO LONG SsAviNGs" $50 DOWN You name it and schools teach it LOW MONTHLY PaAYmMENTS WITH CHRYSLER CREDIT JUST WEST OF KIPLING Fast Free Credit Check Another course that might interest a number of residents, particularly leaders in the community, is the 10 week St. John Ambulance Course which is to be held on Wednesday nights. With such a turnover in houses these days, "Buying and Selling Your Home," might prove to be a course of great advantage. Not that I am interested in anyone leaving this area, but should you decide, you might as well know how best to make the change. can take your course at your own local school. Boylen secondary has a wide variety of subjects to offer, two of which should interest many residents of this area. I believe these are comparatively new subjects for night school. Have you ever looked over the shoulder of your youngster when he was doing his arithmetic homework and wonder what on earth he was doing? Now is the time to find out by enrolling in "New mathematics for parents," being offered at Nelson Boylen on Wednesday nights. Our local secondary school also offers a variety of arts and crafts, and science technology and trades subjects. Almost any subject is available in North York‘s adult education program, ranging from English for new Canadians to data processing. However, it is always very gratifying if you ask for a copy of their 1968â€"1969 aquatic and recreation programs. After reading through this booklet, you will realize that a great deal of thought and work has gone into planning activities for all ages. September 30. AMESBURY SPORTS CLUB Highlites of the game were the pitching of both opposing pitchers, Tom Finnigan of the Yanks and Peter Lauderdale of the Pontiacs. Barry Anderson was the big hero for the Champs, clouting two home runs including the winner in the bottom of the seventh inning. Tom Finnigan belted a homer for the losers. While the officials know they will have no difficulty whatsoever in getting enough boys to participate in their program, there is always a big question mark as to whether or not enough parents or interested older boys will make themselves available in many different capacities,. Perhaps some of the older boys with more available time on their hands could offer their services,. You won‘t get any pay, for this is a voluntary job, but you will get thanks from both the boys and officials. Our sympathy is extended to Mr. and Mrs. J. Sellars, Dorsy Drive, on the death of Mrs. Sellars‘ father, Mr. Hynd, August 29. Our congratulations to the Weston Times on the ‘"new look" of the paper beginning this week. With the new format, and easier to read print, I hope that we will have new readers, who will feel free to call me with items of interest for this column. We are interested in the happenings of everyone in the area, and are very delighted when news items are phoned in.
