(One only has to take stock of the winter sports facilities that. are mushrooming in the Metro Toronto region to realize that human beings, unlike bears, don‘t relate winter with hibernation. Skiing, tobogganing, skating are counted among the more prosaic forms of winter recreation â€"â€" you might also include iceâ€"fishing â€"â€" but there are new forms of. outdoor fun making their presence felt, not the least of them being snowmobiling, winter hiking â€"and even picnicking in the snow! And most of these pursuits can be realized without ‘venturing too far away from North York. > T he _Metropolitan Toronto and region conservation authority, for example, has provided winter recreation facilities in seven of its 12 conservation areas, and al! of these areas are within 20 miles of the city.
