On behalf of the Dodger executive Archer asked manager Ken Avarell if he would assume the coaching reins. Itraccepting the dual position of manager-coach, Avarell said that he was elevating Bob Tindall from assistant coach to assistant manager-coach. "The job is just too much for one man and' with Tindall taking over some of the front office duties as well " being able to assist in the coaching end, we should have. a winning combination," Avarell stated. "The fact that the team had shown no improvement in the standings since O'F1aherty took over was very instrumental in this change and the situation was compounded by the fact the Dodgers are on a 4 game losing streak," said Archer.
