An offering of $75,000 is ‘the target for this year‘s World Day of Prayer March 7. The money is distributed by the W o men‘s Interâ€"Church Council, mostly for Christian literature in 25 countries around the world. About 600,000 Canadian women are expected to attend 5,000 services, conducted in a dozen languages. The service, usually on the first Friday of Lent, was changed this year to the later day. Our district here will be meeting on Friday, March 7 and the service will be conducted by ladies from St. Timothy Anglican, Riverside United, St. Stephens Presbyterian, Emery United, and St. Jude Roman Catholic at St. Judes Church. The service will be at 8:00 p.m. to allow for more to attend and everyone is invited. Congratulations to Cam and Edith Young, Jubilee Cres., on the birth of their first child, David Alan, 8 pounds, 8 ounces. David arrived at Humber Hospital February 13. Mother and baby are well and father has come down to earth, at last. First Emery cubs and scouts held their annual father and son banquet at Riverside church last Friday eveningwith 96 in attendance. The ladies of the auxiliary served a delicious roast beef dinner. At the head table were Assistant District Commissioner Ken Elms and Mrs. Elms, Rev. Wm. Thorneloe, Scout Master of Ist Emery Scouts, Don Dawson and son, helper, Steve Johnson, Assistant cub Master Jim Potter, Akela Les Brown and son and Mrs. Mary â€" Guest, president of the ladies auxiliary. For entertainâ€" ment the cubs put on several skits and a small cub choir sang a ~ few numbers. The scouts had a few sketches and a musical group played. A film followed on Gordie Howe showing tips on hockey. Cub Akela Les Brown gave badges to Tommy Skidmore and â€" Mark Penlington for their skaters badge, Mark Penlington earned his team players badge, Doug Kvistbo his gardeners, Tommy Skidmore and Jimmy Lawrence their pet keepers, Stewart Gourley his swimmersâ€"green stage and lan Brow n his cub instructors. It was a very successful evening and the part the ladies auxiliary played in serving the dinner was much appreciated. Deborah Ann, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. < Wm. Friday, February 21 at 2:30 p.m. Marily Bilek was the bridesmaid and Garry Johnson was the best man. The bride chose a grey and white suit, white bow hat and matching accessories with a white gardenia corsage. The bridesmaid wore pink and yellow suit, pink bow hat and matching hat with a yellow rose corsage. For the champagne dinner that followed after at Peppios the bride‘s mother was attired in navy dress with black accessories and wore a corsage of pink rosebuds. The groom‘s grandmother, Mrs. Murray was attired in turquoise, a turquoise hat and matching accessories and wore a corsage of pink carnations. A reception was held later in the newlyweds new apartment for a few close friends. They are on a motor trip to points east for their honeymoon. After a very successful play, Bye Bye Birdie, put on by the drama club of Emery Collegiate students, and what more can be said after the two wonderful write ups in last week‘s paper, a valentine dance was ~held last Friday evening at the school with the Joshua Harris Crusade entertaining, with a large attendance. The next event is EXAMS! and they start March 3. The regular meeting of Riverside Senior Citizens of Weston 147, was held last Thursday at â€" Riverside Church with 20. members present. The president Mr. Clark reported that he and Mrs. Clark attended the United Senior Citizens of Ontario meeting on the 19th of February at .the Hadassah Y. Mr. Clark also reported that forced retirement at age 65 is proving to be a great mistake for many companys as they are finding it very difficult to replace the skilled men and women they let go. During the short business meeting future meeting plans were discussed. Election of officers will be held next meeting, March 6 as well as a film and talk by Peter Vleeschouwer‘s assistant on her recent trip to Mexico. After the business a film on the making of Dalton China was much enjoyed. Mr. Albers reported that he had visited Mrs, Easton and found her feeling better. The meeting closed after refreshments and a social time. Mrs. Wm. Nichol, Dundas, Ont., spent a few days last week with her daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ron Penlington and Mark, Ann Arbour Rd.
