Misses Connie and Dawn Harris and members of the junior choir served refreshments. Pelmo Park public school was the scene of a great deal of activity last Saturday â€" afternoon. The event was a Community Fair (‘sponsored by . the Pelmo Park Home and School Association. Other groups in the community ‘participated to make it a real community effort. €*These included the cubs, 46) scout,s venturers, brownies, guides, rangers and many of the school children. On Good Friday the congregations of North Park, Elverston Park and Tretheway â€" churches will worship in North Park church. Rev. Mr. Beckel will preach the sermon. He wanted to adjourn the debate that was going on, to discuss a matter of "urgent public importance"‘; namely, the Texas Gulf smelter. He has alrtady warned Metro This week I want to write in a little detail about a particular ~incident which took place in the Legislature, and how a backbench MPP doing his job can affect the politics of Ontario. Bill Ferrier and the people of Timmins want the smelter built right there. They see it as the key to expansion and major new prosperity for the whole region. They get mad when they think that this smelter might get built down in the United States, with all the new jobs and development going out of the country along with the ore. It‘s their ore, they say. It belongs to the people of Ontario, so the people should have a say about what‘s going to happen to Bill Ferrier is a serious, hardworking, 36 year old MPP from the Timmins region _ of Ontario. A fullâ€"time _ United Church minister before he got into politics, he was elected two years ago because the people in Timmins and the Porcupine didn‘t think the government _ was _ paying enough attention to their future. it, and where the smelter goes. Not a very helpful revelation. Bill Ferrier, by making his simple, straightforward request for a special debate, highlighted two major issues confronting Ontario legislators. One is the future economic development of northern Ontario. The other is the archaic, fusty, recently that York will not tolerate any â€" interference with the borough‘s rights along the lakefront which provide tax revenue or potential tax revenue.
