On Thursday, April 3rd, playing at Habitant arena, St. Judes won the 1968â€"69 Tyke championship. with this convincing 6â€"0 romp over the Foresters, so our congratulations go out to the boys of St. Judes and coach C. Wareham. In the first game of this final series it was the Foresters who were winners but then St. Judes came back to take the next two games. In the second game St. Judes appeared to be just rounding into peak form and in this third and final game there was no denying them the victory and the championship. In this final drive goalie Don Tallis was a key figure for St. Judes. Mike Cardiff opened the scoring at 9.58 of the first period and then at the 16.04 mark Steve Agius made it 2â€"0 for St. Judes to round out the first period. Mike Cardiff scored his second and third goals of the game to open the second period. The first at 2.43 and the second of the period at 4.50 to give him the hatâ€"trick. Carl Wareham then scored the fifth and sixth goals of the game at 11.42 and 12.51 of the second period to round out the scoring and the game. Hard hats are still the order of the day for Sydney Renton, Administrator of the Yorkâ€"Finch General Hospital, and his secretary Mrs. Brenda Polhill. April 5th, St. Lukes Kings ran over St. Judes handing them a 6â€"0 defeat. As a result of these games St. Lukes Kings and St. Lukes Aces go into the final round. Special mention this week to Ed Blandon who plays Minor Bantam hockey for Academy Auto. Ed won The 9th Annual Borough of North York Doubles Badminton â€" championships were held in March. Participants from 10 badminton clubs engaged in this tournament sponsored by the North York Parks and Recreation Department and organized and operated by two of the Recreation Staff, Shelly Bender and Ron Durham. A high calibre of badminton was displayed 1throughout the tournament with the Lansing United Church club sweeping all events except the Ladies Doubles "B" championship and the Mixed Doubles ‘*B" championship. The tournament was highlighted by Margaret Ballantyne and Pradip Basu, who won two championships each. Pradip Basu played and won the Mens Doubles with his father, Dr. Prasanta Basu. North York doubles badminton winners the ‘Most Deserving Player Award‘ which brings with it a free week at hockey school held at Centennial Arena. The award was presented by the North York Department of Parks and Recreation, so once again, congratulations Ed.
