On Wednesday April 30, Weston had their annual Music Night. This year it was a combined music and drama night: Feelings on the success of this evening are so much and kep us going. The students are just beginning the more delicate task of collecting the money from their sponsors so we aren‘t sure exactly how much our school has to contribute. Just the same, we feel Weston made on the finest showings of the schools in Metro. By Jane Walker. Last Saturday Weston C.I. students and teachers joined the throng of walkers on their way to City Hall. Despite the blisters, tightened _ muscles, and sunburn, it was hard not get caught up in the spirit of the march. The organization this year was remarkable. Every checkpoint offered first aid , food and sympathy. It was this last provision that raised spirits Tea and sympathy for marchers Some of the youngsters are shown here taking advantage of Ken Johns‘ offer of free socks to Miles for Millions marchers. Gratis foot powder set on a bench outside the store on John St. was well used and a total of 118 pairs of Harvey Woods cushion sole sox were given to weary walkers. Weston CI York Parks Commissioner Al. Savage takes a break during the marathon walk last Saturday. With him are his sons, Eric 14 on the left and Larry 9. All three made it to the 20 mile mar. Tribute to the Marchers by Thelma Robertson Did you watch the March for Millions In that great long line? Did you follow them around, And check from time to time? Did you see weariness creep in, As they covered every mile? Yet see determination too, Just to finish with a smile. Then did you see them at the end As they crossed the finish line? Lots in tears and all footsore But saying they felt fine Well it brought tears to my eyes And I want to shout aloud ‘"There goes our future folk Now aren‘t you really proud?" We‘d like to say thank you to everyone who came to the Blood Donor Clinic last Tuesday and helped make it as successful as it was. mixed. The orchestra, choir and drama club gave one of their finest performances ever to a relatively small audience. A lot of preparation goes into the performance every year and it is not too encouraging w he n Weston‘s own students do not respond. Approximately 300 sq. ft. John Robertson of Robert Street told his wife he walked 25 and shuffled seven of the miles but made it to City Hall to earn about §$75 for the _ various charities. At 61 he. is used to walking every day to work and completed the marathon in 11 hours. His sponsors were friends whose donations were 10 cents to 25 cents a mile. Mrs. _ Bailey‘s daughter and her husband, Florence and Gordon Thomson, also finished the course. Both in their â€" fifties they _ taught school a number of years ago at King Street public school. Seventyâ€"four year old Mrs. Marg Bailey joined the walkers last Saturday for the second year in a row. She finished the 32 mile hike in a little under 12 hours and was in great spirits. She walked alone, she said, because she felt she could take it easy and adjust her stride to her diminutive height. Her sponsor, the Midland Osler Co., promised $5 a mile but indicated they would increase the amount if she finished the walk. Mrs. Bailey took carrots and apples from her Weston Road home and expressed appreciation for the handouts of milk, juices and chocolate she received on the trail. 4 THE BOARD OF EDUCATION FOR THE BOROUGH OF NORTH YORK Although it may be said that those taking part were "doing their thing", we like to think that an apt but older saying "doing their bit" would be more fitting. For those who finished the gruelling tre and those who went as far as they could, it meant blisters and‘ sore muscles but also: the knowledge that they gave of themselves to help others. Young and old , all shapes and sizes, they marched with a will. : Too much cannot be said about the thousands who took part in last Saturday‘s Miles: for Millions march for charity.
