Christmas concert The choir is fortunate indeed, in being able to present this concert at All Saints‘ Church â€" a lovely setting for Christmas music. Just recently, members of the church, who have felt for some time that the church could be made available as an auditorium to organizations wishing to give concerts and recitals, decided to do just that. The Etobicoke Choral Guild is to be the first such cultural group to have the use of these fine facilities. Being on Bloor St., the church is easily accessible by car, bus or subway. During this time he has chaired most Committees of Council inâ€" cluding the Community Centres Board, Parks and Recreation, Traffic, Personnel and Public Relations. He was also elected by his colleagues as Chairman of York Hydro System in 1967 and 1969. As a longtime member of the York Lions Club he was made President at age 29, the youngest man to hold this office in the 35â€"year history of the club. Wellâ€"known for his leadership of the York Lions Drum Corps, he took the 75â€"boy band to the Lions Inâ€" ternational Championship three times bringing top honors to Canada. This involvement with youth naturally led him to sponsor Metro‘s first successful Dropâ€"In Centre Program at Frank Oke, Fairbank Senior Public and Weston‘s West minster United Church. . . . Since 1954 Metro‘s tax levy has increased an unbelievable 741 per cent. Giant municipalities on Metro‘s fringe have been developed with this money to the inner core‘s detriment. The time has come to speak out. Our municipality now faces a $21,000,000 sewer reâ€"development program. During this period York citizens have shelledâ€"out over $100,000,000 to the Metro system with little direct benefit. We should be demanding that less monies be funnelled to the outer boroughs and more attention be given to problems facing York, East York and Toronto. Another area where Metro‘s inâ€" wardâ€"looking policies have let York down is in the inadequate policing of local streets. A lack of communication exists between police and citizens. We need a police division strictly for York. With this accomplished, police would become directly involved with our community, aware of our perâ€" sonal needs.
