PAGE 12 At 5:30 p.m. on Wedâ€" nesday, October 29, 1969, Eastern Airlines Whisperjet flight 345 roared off Toronto International Airport‘s runway, _ Miiamiâ€"bound, bearing with it Nancy Telleria, on the first leg of her journey home to distant LaPaz, high in the bolivian Andes, and her four small children and her husband. Thus ended an epochal five and one half months in her life, filled with anguish and suffering, hope and dispair, and finally triumph. Nancy arrived here on May 16, 1969, sponsored by the Lions Clubs of Weston, Runny mede, Parkdale, Beaches and Central, from a flaming auto wreck at LaPaz, in the summer of 1968. Death was cheated then, but the horrible scars imprinted on the face and body of the once pretty young matron, together with the loss of her carbonized right hand, made this a Pyrrhic victory for her. A special thanks is also due our Lionettes for contributing a beautiful wig, to cover some of the areas of the scalp where plastic surgery was insufficient. A year from now much of the surgical scartissue will have faded or disappeared, and it is to be hoped that she will have become quite proficient in the use of her new orâ€" thopeadic hand. Perhaps the casual observor will not even realize the ghastly havoc once wrought by the merâ€" ciless flames. Nancy‘s gratitude to the Lions is deeply felt and sincere, but difficult to put into words. No doubt, it is dramatic events like these which best drive home the full worth and meaning of, maybe, a seemingly inâ€" terminable night at Bingo, or Gathered at the Airport were Bob Young, John and Marianne Taylor with their young _ son, Richard, representing Weston Lions; Bruno and Mary Blanche, accompanied by Fanny Patino, from the Runnymede Lions, and a young Bolivian family. Nancy was in high spirits; only at the end of her stay here did she come to fully realize the enormous improvement in her apâ€" pearance. This â€" same realization lifted a terrible burden from her troubled mind â€" life was worth living after all. Watching from the ob servation platftorm as the great jet streaked towards the horizon, a single thought almost palpably enveloped the small farewell party: the Arena Booth, or any one of a host of other onerous and timeâ€"consuming Lion Acâ€" tivities.
